The threat of air pollution

The threat of Air Pollution.
How Indoor Gardening can help to save from Air
Pollution.
Air
pollution is a serious problem for all of us. Some people are especially
sensitive to common air pollutants such as particulates and ground-level ozone.
Sensitive populations include children & people who are active outdoors,
and people with heart or lung diseases, such as asthma need to be aware of steps
they can take to protect their health.
Air
pollution is the contamination of air due to the presence of substances in the
atmosphere that are harmful to the health of humans and other living beings, or
cause damage to the climate or to materials. There are many different types of
air pollutants, such as gases, particulates, and biological molecules.
Most
people who live in cities breathe air that's polluted by things like vehicle
emissions and industry smokestacks. In the developing world, the problem is
even worse - almost one out of every three people lives in a polluted area. it
also affects animals and the environment.
Following are the threats of air pollution
1) Ozone layer
depletion
The hole in the ozone layer is caused by
air pollutants. Chemicals used as refrigerants, such as chlorofluorocarbons
(CFCs), contain chlorine atoms. Releasing chlorine atoms into the
atmosphere destroys ozone. A single chlorine atom can destroy thousands of
ozone molecules.
2) Harmful to human
beings
People experience a wide range of health
effects from being exposed to air pollution. Effects can be broken down
into short-term effects and long-term effects. Short-term effects, which
are temporary, include illnesses such
as pneumonia or bronchitis. They also include discomforts such
as irritation to the nose, throat, eyes, or skin. The long-term
effects of air pollution can last for years or for an entire
lifetime. Long-term health effects from air
pollution include heart disease, lung cancer,
and respiratory diseases such as emphysema.
3) Harmful to the
environment
Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen
oxide particles in the air can create acid rain when they
mix with water and oxygen in the atmosphere. These
air pollutants come mostly from coal-fired power plants and motor
vehicles. When acid rain falls to Earth, it damages plants by
changing soil composition; degrades water quality in rivers,
lakes and streams; damages crops; and can cause buildings and monuments to decay
4) Acid Rain
The burning of fossil fuels releases
harmful gases such as nitrogen oxides and sulphur oxides into the air. The
water droplets combine with these pollutants, become acidic and fall as acid
rain which damages human, animal and plant life.
How to overcome the effects of air
pollution
1) Using electronic
vehicles
The major benefit of electric cars is the
contribution that they can make towards improving air quality in towns and
cities. pure electric cars produce no carbon dioxide emissions when driving.
This reduces air pollution considerably.
2) Creating an Indoor
Garden at home
Plants absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from
the air and release oxygen back into the atmosphere. This process helps keep
our environment clean and healthy. indoor plants also help reduce stress and
improve productivity.
As per a study by NASA - Interior
Landscape Plants for Indoor Air Pollution Abatement. In this study, the leaves,
roots, soil, and associated microorganisms of plants have been evaluated as a
possible means of reducing indoor air pollutants.

Some of the plants like Areca Palm, Rubber
Plants, Philodendron, Boston Fern, and Sansevieria are the best examples of
Indoor plants, which purifies the air at night, keeping these plants indoor at
home is always advisable to keep your surrounding at home fresh and lively. In
fact our brand name ARPHIBO® is derived from 4 indoor plants:-

indoor air-purifying plants
A – Areca palm plant
R – Rubber plant
PHI – Philodendron plant
BO – Boston fern plant
3) Using public
transport
Every vehicle on the road releases an
average of one pound of CO2 per mile driven. Compared with driving alone,
taking public transportation reduces CO2 emissions by 45%, decreasing
pollutants in the atmosphere and improving air quality.
4) Recycle, reuse,
refuse, reduce
According to research by the
University of Central Oklahoma, recycling paper cuts down on-air pollution by
73% and water pollution by 35%. Recycling steel reduces 97% of the mining waste
produced through the manufacture of virgin resources, and cuts back 86% and 76%
on air pollution and water pollution, respectively. Additionally, using
recycled glass decreases mining waste by 80% and air pollution by 20%.
5) Afforestation
The world's forests absorb a third of
global emissions every year. Particles, odours and pollutant gases such as
nitrogen oxides, ammonia and sulphur dioxide settle on the leaves of a
tree. Trees absorb these toxic chemicals through their stomata, or
'pores', effectively filtering these chemicals from the air.
